ZANU-PF is targeting to mobilise 100 000 youths for the Mashonaland Central Presidential Youth Interface Rally expected to be held early next month.

This was revealed by the Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Zanu-PF Central Committee member Advocate Martin Dinha during the first preparatory meeting for the interface rally held in Bindura yesterday.

Adv Dinha chaired the meeting that was also attended by the youth leadership from the province.

He is co-chairing the organising committee together with Cde Chen Chimutengwende, who is also a member of the Zanu-PF Central Committee.

Adv Dinha said Mashonaland Central would showcase the party’s massive mobilisation capacity as never seen in other provinces.

“Mashonaland West reached 60 000 and as Mashonaland Central we have set a target of 100 000,” he said. “Of course, Mashonaland West dubbed their meeting President’s homecoming rally, but we want to show them that the President comes from Mashonaland Central.

“Our First Lady is running excellent projects in this province and this is surely their home. Mashonaland Central is a known Zanu-PF stronghold even in terms of voting and we should show this when our President comes. You cannot talk about Zanu-PF without talking about Mashonaland Central.”

Adv Dinha called for unity of purpose among Zanu-PF members as they prepare for the President’s visit.

He said people should bridge their past differences and start working towards the success of the Presidential Youth Interface Rally.

“We will not allow anyone who would want to disturb this programme,” he said.

“No matter what differences people have, we should work together and ensure a momentous welcome for our President.”

Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central Youth League chairperson Cde Isaiah Mandaza urged all committees tasked to organise the interface rally to work tirelessly to ensure that the event is a success.

He said resources such as fuel should be deployed early to all districts.

“From experience, the issue of transport and accommodation need to be done properly and well on time,” said Cde Mandaza. “We are ready to mobilise huge crowds, but the issue of resources needs to be properly addressed.”

Zanu-PF Youth League secretary for external affairs Cde Tongai Kasukuwere stressed the importance of unity among party members.

President Mugabe has so far visited Mashonaland East, Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and Mashonaland West where he held highly subscribed youth interface rallies.

The next such rally has been slated for Matabeleland South on August 12 and the President would have visited all the provinces by October.
