Curb corruption in police force

-

EDITOR — How can enforcers of the law be the ones to perpetrate corruption?

It is time that people become ethical and don’t abuse their powers. Any violation of laws, especially by those who are supposed to be enforcing should not be taken lightly.

The issue of a police subordinate trying to be transferred to Police Traffic Department should also raise eyebrows.

Why would one push for a transfer unless there are benefits? The amount charged by the officer-in-charge for boards at Police General Headquarters can only be a depiction of the benefits of working at the Traffic Department.

We have always known that the police on the road only aim to drain people of all their money and this report is only substantiating the claims made by vehicle operators. The mandate of police on the road should only be to make sure that motorists are observing road rules.

Being selfish by making people pay fines that are unheard of cannot solve anything at all.

Road accidents are surging and this is not what we are expecting taking into consideration multiple roadblocks that are on our roads.

Serious measures should be taken to reduce the rate of corruption in this country, especially by those who are supposed to enforce laws. Zororo Mlilo, Via e-mail.
