Doves boost for 2017 Gold Cup

- Sports Reporter

DOVES Funeral Services, who have been investing a lot into domestic football of late, have stepped in as the title sponsors for the 2017 Gold Cup: Nelia Edition set for Alex Sports Club in Harare.

The football tournament is the brainchild of The Sunday Mail Sports Editor Makomborero Mutimukulu, who has been hosting it on an annual basis.

Doves came on board yesterday in a major boost for the tourney.

“The decision to sponsor the event through the purchasing of a kit, trophy and medals was arrived at after the realisation that the annual tournament epitomises what our liberation heroes died for — Freedom,’’ the company said.

Commenting on the development, Doves Funeral Assurance executive Julian Maisvoreva said Doves were pleased to be part of a social soccer tournament, whose main curtain-raiser is a clash between the Dynamos and CAPS United Queens.

“There were times when places like Alex Sports Club was a preserve of a certain race, but this all changed with the coming of Independence in 1980.

“On Monday, Zimbabweans from all walks of life will get a chance to express their football talent as they celebrate Heroes’ Day in style. With our catch line ‘for the ones you love’, we believe as a company we are showing that we love every Zimbabwean through being part of the Gold Cup,” she said.
