Nyadzonia, Chimoio visits crucial to youths
EDITOR — The history of Zimbabwe is like a tale to most youths, who were born after the country had already gained independence and never got to witness the brutality and heartlessness of colonialists.
Visits by youths to places like Nyadzonia and Chimoio are important because they accord them a chance to see for themselves the camps and appreciate what the gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe did to ensure colonial rule was wiped out.
There is need for such trips, especially by educational institutions so that they become helpful in the pupils’ study of history.
Zimbabwe’s independence came through the shedding of blood and loss of lives, so the heroes and heroines have to be celebrated because without them we would still be colonised and wallowing in slavery.
It is overwhelming to know that our youths, the future leaders, are going to pay respect to the freedom fighters, who were laid to rest at Chimoio and other areas .
History has to always be at the back of our minds because of its significance, such that the information is passed on from one generation to the other to avoid instances where the colonial era returns.
Therefore, the future leaders should know that they cannot lead a country or develop it without having any interest in its history. Well-done to the youths in Mutare! Obert Chakari, Bindura.
