Major boost for Tanya

-

YOUNG motocross rider Tanya Muzinda’s star continues to shine after she got a one-year gym sponsorship from Crossfit Kyma Gym in Mount Pleasant.

This comes at a time when she is preparing for next month’s British Girls National Championships at Wroxton in Oxford, England.

The gym is owned by Ryan Burt and Otis Goredema.

Under the sponsorship, Muzinda (12), the postergirl of Zimbabwean motocross, will be working with Grant Mitchell, a qualified strength and conditioning specialist who has been in the health and fitness industry for 19 years.

Goredema said his passion to see talented children achieving their dreams is one of the reasons that drove him to offer Muzinda the sponsorship.

“Personally, I have always had interest in kids that are number one — talented. And number two kids in general because that’s where our future is.

“The fact that she is also a female in a very male dominated kind of sport, she has also broken all the stereotypes.

“It was also something I think we need to encourage and sometimes in certain society and even certain sectors throughout the world people stereotype and say this girl is doing this sport maybe she should be doing something more feminine. But if she receives all the support it makes her a bit more encouraged “Basically she has got full access to the gym normally it would be $85 a month,” Goredema said. “And we also gave her father (Tawanda) a one-year gym membership. And the reason why I did that, this is a 12-year-old and me as a father with a 12-year-old, it’s important that the father see how the daughter is training and at the same time she has got a trainer called Grant Mitchell,” said Goredema.

Mitchell was full of praise for Muzinda describing her as a dedicated and humble person. “Tanya is not just a highly-talented young athlete but a very dedicated and humble person too. She is a hard worker who has a bright future.

“Within the sports scene of Zimbabwe she is seen as a leading light and if this sponsorship helps her in achieving her full potential then we are happy,” said Mitchell.

Tanya’s father Tawanda said they are grateful as they continue to get sponsorship for her daughter to pursue her dreams. “I think the sponsorship came at the right time since that gym is a high performance centre and for Tanya it’s her first time to go to the gym.

“So it’s really important because the girls Tanya is going to race with in England next month have got all the resources and all the facilities.

“Tanya has upgraded to the 85cc bike so besides the technique she also needs to be strong. She is now competing at an international level and those guys mean business.
