The importance of a seed

Reproduced below are excerpts of a sermon preached by Emmanuel Makandiwa on Sunday, 2 July 2017, Morning Service.

“AND God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.” (Genesis 1:11). We have got thousands if not millions of religions on earth as of today. Everything that God created is being worshipped somewhere from water, stones, clouds and even the sky. Somebody somewhere is busy worshipping something created by God.

If you look into the constitutions that people have come up with to support their religions and their belief systems that back up their religions, you will understand that every religion believes in sowing and reaping. They believe that if you do something today you will get a reward for it. Which means if you leave one religion simply because of sowing, you will get into another religion only to find out that they believe in the same principles. Sowing seeds is a universal law that God introduced.

Even those that you find killing others in the name of religion they believe that there is a reward for doing that; they believe in sowing and reaping. There is something important you have to understand. Every time you hear of a seed you have to broaden your mind and understand that a seed is more than what you may think.

In the scripture above God commanded the earth to bring forth all the vegetation we now see. God spoke it into existence, He commanded and assigned the earth to bring forth everything that we see. God spoke to the earth and then it brought it out.

God did not want to come back after every dry season and cause new grass to grow; to avoid that He made sure within every tree that grows there has to be a seed. God did not have to come and speak to the earth again for it to bring forth a different vegetation. Within the trees that the earth brought forth there was a seed which is now producing trees we see today.

God is at rest simply because He managed to assign every tree that grows to carry within itself a seed that produces the next generation of trees. Everything God created is busy multiplying itself. He created man and placed a seed inside him and told him to multiply and fill the earth. God does not ask you to multiply without Him giving you a seed that can multiply.

God gives you the power, grace and anointing to multiply. It is right inside of you. There is a principle you have to understand. The future you desire to have right now is demanding a seed that you have in the present. We sow seeds for the future we desire; the future you are praying for, hoping for and want to have is asking for a seed that you have in the present.

The seed could be time because time itself is a seed. When you spend your time doing something it is a seed you will be sowing. What you spend most of your time doing, understand that you are paying a price for the future you will have. You have to look at what you spend most of your time doing because time is a seed.

When you advise somebody, your advice is a seed; when you help somebody the help is a seed. When you give your money to the Lord, the money ceases to be your money and it becomes a seed. Every tree that God created there was a seed within that tree to produce another tree.

Which means in every money there is a money seed because in every tree there is a tree seed. “… Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed…” (Genesis 1:11). In this scripture God is not just talking about the herb that carries the seed, He is talking about the seed that carries the herb.

God did not just create trees, He also created seeds that were not trees the day they were created. There are some of the trees that God did not create, He simply created their seeds and spread them everywhere. Within those seeds you find herbs but when you pick the seeds you cannot tell if there is a tree inside the seed.

As small as it is it contains the whole forest. Your coming here on this planet you did not just come to visit earth. You are like a seed that God planted on earth. You are a garden; God placed seeds inside of you so that you can bring forth somebody who looks just like you or even better than you. There are seeds in all of us.

There are people who are not enjoying their present life and yet they believe so much that their future is going to be better but the present they are living right now is the present they paid for. You sowed seeds to get the present life that you are not enjoying today. You planted seeds towards your current experiences right now; what you are going through today there are seeds you planted. You might have planted them unaware but still, you planted.

For you to have a future different from your present, your seed has to be different. If you keep on sowing the same seed you will keep on having the same future and same harvest. If you want the future to change you have to change the seed you sow.

Invest more time in what you are doing, you should not just invest more time in what you are doing but you also have to change what you have been doing for the past years. Do something different if you want your future to change.

We have seeds within us and the future you desire to have is asking from you. How much, whether in terms of time or in terms of money are you willing to part with for the sake of the future you want to have? You have to listen to the voice of your future. What is the future demanding from you and can you provide that?

When it comes to sowing and reaping you have to know how to give, when to give, what to give and how to recover your harvest.

God enjoys asking you for things He knows you desire so much and you would want to keep them. When you have something you cherish the most and you would not want to release it; that is what God will ask from you. God focuses on that one thing you are focusing on. What you value so much is what He will demand from you.
