UPCOMING hip-hop musician Tupac Chivhanga has collaborated with dendera musician Tryson Chimbetu on a single titled “Mama Africa” set to be released next month.

The 20-year-old musician who is a student at Great Zimbabwe University also believes the genre needs to take on board other musicians for development.

“When you collaborate with other musicians, you learn a lot of things from them.

“We cannot do it alone as hip-hop musicians but we need to collaborate with other musicians who sing different genres so that we grow,” he said.

Chivhanga said the collaboration was a reflection of hip-hop musicians’ ability to embrace other genres.

“In as much as people would say the genre is associated with hate speech, we also have an appreciation of other genres out there.

“Tryson is one talented musician I have respected for years hence my desire to collaborate with him,” he said.

Chivhanga who hails from Zvishavane said he is aiming higher in the hip-hop industry.

“I am doing well to balance music and studies. I believe with hard work, no one can stop me from becoming a great artist. I am happy that things are going as planned,” he said.

Growing up in Zvishavane, young Chivhanga had always loved hip hop music.

As a young boy, he was not exposed to any recording studio and would just write songs.

“I did not know anyone in the industry so I wrote my songs and shelved them at home.

“God opened doors for me after my sister got married within the Chimbetu family,” he said.

After that Chivhanga managed to record his first single with Tryson.

“Tryson is encouraging me to do my best and with his guidance I will do my best to produce the best hip-hop songs in the country,” said Chivhanga.

The hip-hop musician has since lined up a number of collaborations with some of the big names in Zim hip-hop.
