Security agencies must learn from Chiwenga

- Christopher Kamoto, Marondera.

EDITOR — Education is an important element in life, especially with the advent of technology.

Education is important because it can be used to mitigate challenges and helps one to think outside the box so as to devise strategies on how to conquer either during a war or in difficult times.

In Zimbabwe, there are no obstacles in education. If one is employed, they can still further their education. Age is just a number and anyone can go to school to study any area of their choice.

It will be good for law enforcement agencies to encourage officers to get educated, so that they can take part in exchange programmes, for instance soldiers, who would have studied journalism can work in media houses, which will give them a platform to explore their abilities.

Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantino Guveya Chiwenga led by example. This should encourage other servicemen to further their education and not only rely on being soldiers.

Soldiers should take advantage of the Defence College, which is specifically there for army officers to develop their skills as the protectors of the nation as well as explore other fields of study.

Even during the liberation struggle there was need for advisors and strategic planners. These could not have been there without education.

Therefore, soldiers should further their education. We need soldiers who can write, read and be analytical, because for any army to be unconquerable it has to be ahead in all sectors be it education or defence.
