Make Zim attractive for tourists

EDITOR — The media plays a crucial role in bringing about developmen­t in this country. It is through the media that people outside Zimbabwe are either attracted or repelled by the country.

Minister Walter Mzembi realises the importance of media in increasing the number of tourists coming in the country, hence he is calling for Zimbabwe brand marketing. It is commendabl­e that there has not been a single loss of life of a tourist due to conflict or instabilit­y in the past 33 years.

This clearly shows that Zimbabwe is a secure destinatio­n for tourists.

The media should make use of such positive facts when broadcasti­ng or publishing about tourism in Zimbabwe. There are other areas in the country that have beautiful tourist attraction­s, but have not been receiving the right publicity.

One of these areas is Muzarabani, which is dominated by attractive mountains and valleys.

So much attention has been given to Victoria Falls, Nyanga, Great Zimbabwe and Kariba, but these are not the only places in the country.

There is need for media to also cover beautiful areas that can lure tourists to come into this country.

Tourism will also create jobs, especially for the younger generation­s.

If the tourism base in this country is strong, there will be need for an increase of tour guides and hotel employees. Besides these, other industries can also benefit from tourism.

Agricultur­e, food production and retail can also be sustained by a strong tourism base. Tongai Mazambani, Chiredzi.
