Partnering with the voice of God: Part 1

-

You can receive messages from God by way of seeing, not just by hearing. There is a time when the voice of God can really become visible. You can see things happening and know that it is the voice of God. Whether it is business, marriage or pursuing a career, you should not get into any of those things without the voice of God.

REPRODUCED below are excerpts of a sermon preached by Emmanuel Makandiwa on Sunday, 26 June 2016, Youth Service.

“And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.”(2 Kings 6:1-2).

Sometimes people try to give their own interpretation to scriptures which is not consistent with other scriptures. The best commentary for a scripture is another scripture.

When you have several passages in the word of God repeating the same issue over and over again then you can make a doctrine out of it. You should not just pick one story out of context and make a doctrine out of it. In the scripture above, it was a group of people that were born from different families but simply because they came under one umbrella they are regarded as sons of the prophets.

They were regarded as sons of the prophets, not because their biological fathers were prophets, but they submitted to the training and mentorship of prophets. They came to Elisha, who represented the voice of God and asked for permission before they could do what they wanted to do.

It was a sign that they knew the importance of having the voice of God close to you every time. They could not even go alone, but they asked Elisha to accompany them on their mission.

They wanted an assurance that they had the voice of God present as they were doing their work. You have to understand the importance of the voice of God in everything you do no matter how simple it may seem.

No matter it is a business, you should not divorce it from the voice of God. Things we do independent from the voice of God no matter how simple they are, those are issues that tend to be more complicated.

It does not matter you are trained and you specialise in doing a particular assignment to a point where you feel there is no need for God’s voice, you still need the voice of God in your life. The sons of the prophets insisted on going with Elisha on their journey until he finally yielded to their request.

When the voice of God is heard and clearly understood, confusion is taken away. God speaks to us through many channels. Sometimes God decides to speak to us by way of showing us; messages can be given to us by way of visions, revelations, images and dreams. These are times when God speaks to you not through words; God can decide not to say anything but He shows you something.

When you enter into the realm where you know that God is going to convey messages, you do not just have to pay attention to what God is saying but also to what He is showing you.

You have to perfect all your senses; be it hearing, sight or even feeling, they all have to be active. You will be in an environment where God can say anything by way of showing you. “. . . And will watch to see what he will say unto me. . .” (Habakkuk 2:1). There are so many things that God is telling you by way of showing you and it is just that your eyes cannot see.

You need to open your eyes and look at what God is saying. God Himself will cause certain things to happen in your presence as a way of communicating with you. As you watch things unfolding right in front of your eyes it could be a message from God.

You can receive messages from God by way of seeing, not just by hearing. There is a time when the voice of God can really become visible. You can see things happening and know that it is the voice of God. Whether it is business, marriage or pursuing a career, you should not get into any of those things without the voice of God.

You can never get used to the voice of God because every time, He can choose a certain way of talking to you that will surprise you.

In as much as we know that God speaks, what is important for you to know is how He speaks to you. God speaks, but what people do not understand is how He talks to them. When God looks at us, He deals with us individually.

If you analyse the trend at which God has been communicating with you, there is a certain style that He prefers. There is a way that God is comfortable with when He is talking to you than when He is talking to your friend.

You need to establish the way God wants to talk to you though it might take you time to muster. If you do not realise the method God prefers talking to you, you will miss a lot of messages from Him. You should not be confined to just one dimension of the way God speaks to you.

To most people it is just one fraction of their being, which is paying attention to the voice of God because they are expecting God to say something, they are not expecting Him to show them something.

There are some, who wait until they hear the voice of God audibly and it is a problem. There are times God can choose to be heard audibly like you hear the voice of your friend and in a language you understand. It is possible but it does not happen many times; that is also not what God really enjoys most of the times. It is possible for God to talk to you and you fail to hear Him.

That is why there was need for the school of the sons of the prophets in the Bible.

They would enrol and get some training on how to understand the voice of God. They were not taught how to make God speak, because He speaks every time whether you have been to school or not. You need to be taught on how to distinguish the voice of God from any other.

You have to consult the voice of God on every matter of your life no matter how easy it might be. For most people God has been talking to them ever since, but up to now they believe He has not spoken to them.

If there is any adjustment needed it has to be on your part, God does not have to adjust anything. It is you, who has a problem of not hearing what God is communicating.
