Rowdy MDC-T youths seek to justify violence

- Patience Rashai, Via e-mail.

EDITOR — It is astonishing yet saddening that in an executive meeting among youths, people can actually resolve to revolt, over an assumed Zanu-PF ploy to rig results!

According to MDC-T Youth Assembly leader Happymore Chidziva, in a recent meeting, the opposition youths came up with a resolution that they were going to unleash violence against Zanu-PF if they ever suspected it of manipulating the outcome of the 2018 elections.

Honestly, who are MDC-T to determine whether there has been manipulation of the system or not?

MDC lost to Zanu-PF and cried foul over alleged rigging and manipulation of results, only to concede defeat years later acknowledging that Zanu-PF hadn’t actually rigged results, instead they alleged it intimidated people into voting for them.

So what assurance do we have that come 2018, the crybabies will still not scout for a pathetic excuse to justify their loss?

It’s rather unfortunate that the only language that MDC-T seems to understand is violence, which has become their best coercive weapon towards conformity.

A month ago, the beleaguered party beat up their vice president Thokozani Khupe, a culture inculcated within the party youths as the only way of settling disputes.

Elton Mangoma and Trudy Stevenson can certainly attest to that, while Tendai Biti escaped the disciplinary measure by a whisker.

Now this violence culture is resurging among the MDC youths, in the form of arson as the rampant youths torch party cars and leaders’ bars, in the guise of Zanu-PF youths perpetrating violence.

Instead of the naive MDC-T leadership rushing to disassociate themselves from violent activities perpetrated by their youths, it is time the MDC-T affirms the rot in the party and rectifies it.
