Africa needs a health solution
EDITOR — It is vital for African countries to unite and fight the health challenges that they face.
Africans practise a lot of health tourism and it is very demanding financially. Sometimes the patient does not survive as they do not have the funds needed to get health treatment overseas.
African governments should prioritise health and direct sufficient amounts towards the health sector. There is a need for improvements and upgrading especially of the machinery that is used for treatment of patients.
If we unite and promote good health as a continent, the high rates of loss of lives will be reduced significantly.
Unity will also encourage mutual understanding amongst African countries so that if a patient of another African nationality suffers a crisis of serious illness and lack of funds, they can easily get access to health assistance and pay for it in phases.
Non-communicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes, among others, have ravaged the continent and this has to be controlled before the situation gets out of hand.
We have also been faced with a challenge of shortages of drugs for those who are infected by the HIV. This is scary considering the fact that HIV patients had become relaxed because they had access to drugs that prevent the health complications caused by the virus.
There is no better time to call for unity amongst African countries than now. It is the only way Africa can be saved.
