UPCOMING afro jazz singer Belmore Mtandwa has engaged talented musician Progress “Proggy” Chipfumo on his debut album titled “Hupenyu Musiki” set for release next month.

Chipfumo features on a track titled “Ngatiwiriranei”, a song that tackles issues to do with domestic violence in families.

“I decided to engage Chipfumo on this track because I enjoy the rich content of his music. Working with a man of his calibre has taught me a lot of things about music.

“This song basically urges parents and guardians not to fight in their homes in front of their children because it affects them emotionally, psychologically and physically,” said Mtandwa.

The 33-year-old singer also collaborates with gospel musician Trymore Bande on the song “Kure Kure” which he dedicates to his late wife.

“I went through a difficult time in my life when I lost my wife two months ago in an accident. It has been difficult to endure and to express my grief and I penned this song for her to console myself,’ he said.

Mtandwa draws inspiration from his own life experiences and also what happens in the society.

“My background is the major factor that drives composition of my songs. I grew up in a polygamous family and I saw a lot of things happening. I decided to encourage and give hope to other people through music,” he said.

Other tracks on the album include “Hupenyu”(featuring Brian Poison), “Musiki”(featuring Madiz), “Zvinorema”, “Amai”, “Ndokutendai” and a bonus track “Ndazviwanira”.

Mtandwa is hopeful that his first offering will be received well and plans to hold several shows to market it.

“I worked extremely hard on this project and it is my desire that it gets good reception in the music arena. Soon after releasing it I will be holding shows around the city as a way of taking my music to the people,” he said.

His music contains elements of rhumba, traditional and jazz feel to it that makes it appealing to different audiences.

The album was recorded at Inspirational Records.
