Make province proud, Bulawayo youths urged

- Pamela Shumba Senior Reporter

ZANU-PF youths in Bulawayo have been urged to make the province proud by mobilising a spectacular crowd for the provincial Presidential Youth Interface Rally that is expected be held at the end of this month.

The youths yesterday met the provincial coordinating committee to give an update on preparations for the rally.

Politburo member Cde Absolom Sikhosana said it was important for the youths to work as a team with other wings and Government departments to make the upcoming event a success.

“I want to encourage the youths to organise thousands of people to attend the rally. We want to see the roads leading to the venue becoming impassable. We want to be proud of our youths after a well organised and successful rally,” said Cde Sikhosana.

Minister of State for Bulawayo provincial affairs Cde Nomthandazo Moyo called for total participation from every party member in the province.

“My province was given a directive to lead this programme and a State committee has been set up to work with the youths and organise a memorable event.

“I want to encourage the youths and everybody else in the party to focus on the preparations for this event and make sure that you make us proud. Everybody must participate,” said Cde Moyo.

Giving an update on the preparations for the rally, the party’s Bulawayo provincial youth chairperson Cde Anna Mokgohloa said 119 mobilisation committees have been set up to spearhead preparations for the provincial event.

“We have tasked chairpersons for our 119 districts to set up committees with at least 100 people as part of our mobilisation drive. We’re working hand in glove with the State committee and various government departments to make sure that this event becomes a success.

“We have also set up committees that will deal with mobilisation, health, finance, information and publicity and security,” said Cde Mokgohloa.

She also called or unity among the different committees.

A date is yet to be set for the Bulawayo event, which will be held after the Mashonaland Central rally that has been slated for this Saturday.

Bulawayo, Mashonaland Central and Harare province are the only provinces yet to host the Youth Presidential Interface Rally after successful hosting of the event in seven provinces.

The youths are using the interface meetings to interact with President Mugabe as well as articulate social, economic and political issues affecting them.

Among other issues, the Youth League is advocating for young people to have access to land, agricultural inputs and participate in mining activities.

Zanu-PF is also using the rallies to show its mobilisation prowess as each rally is being attended by huge crowds.

This dovetails with findings by respected think tanks that President Mugabe and Zanu-PF’s approval ratings have been increasing while those of the opposition are falling.

The engagements are expected to run until October when the President would have visited all 10 provinces.
