Bantu Rovers woes continue

Hwange . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (2) 3 Bantu Rovers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0 A FIRED-UP Hwange did themselves a huge favour in their quest to avoid relegation at the end of the season when they blew away a hapless Bantu Rovers in this one-sided Castle Lager Premiership match at the Colliery yesterday.

Goals from impressive new signing Delic Murimba, speedy striker Justine Kaunda and Crybert Muvuti made all the difference.

Bantu Rovers must count themselves lucky not to have made the trip back to the City of Kings suffering the hangover of a worse humiliation as Hwange wasted a glut of chances, especially in the opening half, with Murimba and Kaunda being the main culprits.

The signs of doom were clear for the visitors as early as the second minute as Hwange found the target through Kaunda but his effort was disallowed for offside by second assistant referee Venacio Zulu.

There was no denying coach Bigboy Mawiwi’s charges on the quarter-hour mark as man-of-the-match Murimba hit the back of the net after he latched onto a sitter by Nathan Ziwini before he outpaced the entire Bantu defence and cleverly lobbed the ball past a drawn-out Elton Sibanda in goals for Rovers.

On the stroke of half-time Kaunda doubled the hosts lead when he hammered home from close range after being released by Murimba who was playing the game of his life.

Muvuti hammered the final nail into the Bantu coffin nine minutes before the final whistle.

Mawiwi was happy with the win but bemoaned the wasted chances.

“I am happy for the vital three points but I’m not happy with the number of chances we failed to convert. Goals are important as we go forward and I hope to maintain the same rhythm in the next game,” said Mawiwi.

Bantu coach Methembe Ndlovu said they will keep their heads up despite the drubbing.

“I am not ashamed with my team’s performance as we played well despite the loss. We will live to fight another day and I am sure soon will find the right formula,” said Ndlovu.
