Zim fine run continues

- Ellina Mhlanga Sports Reporter

ZIMBABWE continued with their good run yesterday when they dismissed Namibia 57-33 at the ongoing netball Pent Series in Windhoek, Namibia.

It was their second victory in the five-nation Series which also features Botswana, Swaziland and Zambia.

The Gems had beaten Botswana in their first game on Wednesday before taking a break on Thursday.

And they continued from where they left when they prevailed over the hosts yesterday.

The Lloyd Makunde-coached side will be hoping to maintain their good run when they return to the court today to play Swaziland.

They also go into today’s encounter as favourites to win the game and Makunde said they will be chasing their third victory to keep their dream of improving on the world rankings alive.

“They played according to instructions. They played well. Tomorrow we are definitely going to start from where we left.

“We would want to take an early lead and keep on defending until the final whistle,” said Makunde.

With all the participating countries playing for points that will determine their world rankings, it’s not going to be a stroll in the park.

Zimbabwe will then clash with Zambia in the final match tomorrow.

They are the two top-ranked countries in this Series.

It’s likely to be an exciting encounter when the two neighbours meet after they both began their campaign on a high note winning their opening matches.

Zambia defeated Namibia 53-45 on Thursday and were scheduled to clash with Swaziland late yesterday.

In their last meeting at the Africa Championships in Uganda, in June, Zimbabwe defeated Zambia by just a point.
