Dube unfazed by goal drought

FC PLATINUM striker Mkhokeli Dube says he is not worried that he is yet to break his goal duck since joining the Zvishavane miners from Bulawayo City as he is contributing in other ways for his team’s success.

The veteran forward, speaking ahead of today’s clash against How Mine at Maglas, said although he was desperate to score, he was happy with the way he was contributing to the team’s cause.

“As a striker you want to score goals, but here at the moment, it’s about winning games and our objective as a team is to win games,’’ he said.

“If I’m contributing towards the team in winning games it’s fine with me, I can end the season with no goals, but help the team win games and win the championship that’s my goal, that’s why I’m here.

“And it’s been simple and straight forward from the coach, I’m here to try and help these guys win the championship and that’s my job.’’

He added that as an experienced striker he tries by all means to help the youngsters so that they can be better players and he believes he has been playing a good role in that area.

He added that it was easy settling at FC Platinum because he was warmly welcomed by the community here.

“It feels good, the good thing is I was welcomed by the coaches, by the executive, by the players, it just feels like home,’’ he said.

“And just being here is a great opportunity to be coached by Norman Mapeza, one of the great players from Zimbabwe and now coming to play under him and to learn what his philosophy is like, it’s a great motivation for me.

“As a footballer, the football language is the same, you go to different teams you still play the same kind of football, it’s just the change of philosophy.

“You have to understand as quickly as possible what the coaches want and it was easy for me because he explained exactly what he wanted from me and what I have to bring to the team and with the guys that are here, it was so easy to adapt to the system.”

He said they were confident of winning today’s match against How Mine to keep themselves in the race for the league title.
