Inner city crime worrying

- Tendai Guvamombe.

EDITOR — There has been an increase in robbery activities in Harare and I am concerned.

Currently daylight robbery outweighs night robbery activities.

Among other areas, the Mutare Road rank just outside Roadport has become a dangerous zone for daylight robbery.

Many people who wait along this route in search of public transport are prone to victimisation by gangs of armed robbers who often disguise as touts.

Recently a 21-year-old man nearly died after a brutal attack by unidentified men.

He was rescued by ZRP officers from the nearby Roadport base.

There are other dangerous spots in the city, the likes of Good Hope/Westgate rank along Leopold Takawira Road. Incidents of people getting robbed are common starting from dusk.

I also discovered that people living in the streets are now street families and are also engaging in criminal activities.

They walk in gangs and at times assault people at dark spots.

As a citizen, the issue of robbery incidents is a cause for concern and it is high time ZRP adopt effective measures to curb the worrisome trend before Harare degenerates into a crime city.
