EDITOR — Accidents along Seke Road have over the years contributed to the death or injury of hundreds of passengers and motorists.

On average, an accident occurs in Zimbabwe every 15 minutes and five people are killed everyday on our roads. We also have about 1 700 fatalities and over 30 000 people injured every year.

As such we shall be walking from Chitungwiza Town Centre to Africa Unity Square in Harare’s central business district on September 30.

By walking, Passenger Association of Zimbabwe is also making a statement that this carnage is avoidable, as most accidents are caused by “human error”.

Passengers on this and other roads have also fallen victim to robbers using both private and unregistered passenger service vehicles. As the Passengers Association of Zimbabwe we also seek to use this event to educate passengers to use registered PSVs with passenger liability cover and to make them aware of benefits in the event of an accident.

Therefore we invite everyone willing to participate to attend a walk of life workshop which will be graced by the Honourable Minister of Harare Metropolitan Province, Miriam Chikukwa.

Those who want to participate in the walk can join us from the beginning or walk a few kilometres. For instance they can join us from Hatfield or Arcadia. We also encourage corporates and other well-wishers to provide assistance in cash or kind.
