Chinese film festival roars to life

FOR the purpose of diversity and cultural exchange, the Chinese Embassy has come up with an exciting film fiesta that will run from tonight at Sam Levy’s Village Ster-Kinerkor.

The film festival is being hosted in partnership with the China Film Group Corporation with Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation being the facilitator.

In an interview with this publication, JCCM representative Tinashe Kitchen said the objective of festival is to promote Sino-Zim cultural exchange.

“We are pleased to showcase Chinese films in Zimbabwe.

“The objective of the film fiesta is to promote Sino-Zim cultural exchange through the promotion of Chinese film and art as a part of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative,” he said.

The seven-day fete will see six best films from China being showcased and people will learn more about China.

“Through the film exhibition, local audiences will learn more about Chinese traditional cultures, modern society and their inner lives.

“The six selected films show great improvements of Chinese film production and cinematic techniques.

“They are expected to play irreplaceable and active roles in strengthening dialogues among different countries, nations, and cultures,” added Kitchen.

The films to be showcased are “Monkey King: Hero Is Back”, “The Taking of Tiger Mountain”, “My Lucky Star”, “Who am I?”, “Flying Swords of Dragon Gate” and “The Ghouls”.

The same festival is taking place in Madagascar and Ethiopia this month as a way of sharing China’s story to Africa.

Under the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiatives, China and Africa have made all-round and in-depth cooperation in many fields, such as humanities and art.

Chinese filmmakers would like to make joint efforts with their African counterparts for the promotion of the development and diversity of global films.

Recent years has witnessed rapid growth of China’s film industry, robust vitality of its film production and great improvements of its film quality.
