Chimanimani RDC avails land for youth village

- Luthando Mapepa Chipinge Correspondent

CHIMANIMANI Rural District Council has availed 500 hectares of land at Nhedziwa Growth Point for the establishment of a youth village.

The land is expected to benefit thousands of youths, with the ground-breaking ceremony for the project scheduled to take place soon.

Zanu-PF Manicaland youth chairperson Cde Mubuso Chinguno confirmed the development and said work on the ground was expected to commence before year-end.

“Yes, I can confirm that youths in Chimanimani have received a total of 500 hectares of land meant for the establishment of youth villages at Nedziwa growth point,” he said.

“Plans for a ground breaking ceremony are already in the pipeline and once we do that, work will begin.

“We have already identified land developers with favourable conditions who are willing to work with us.”

Cde Chinguno reiterated that the beneficiaries of the residential stands would be getting them for free.

“The beneficiaries of the residential stands in Chimanimani will not pay anything,” he said. “They will only part with a small amount of money that will go towards developing the land and infrastructure, which includes roads, sewer and water reticulation.

“This is in line with President Mugabe’s vision of giving the remaining land to youths and we will make sure as Manicaland leadership that we will work until this project succeeds. Just like in other districts, we will also engage financial institutions who will partner us in developing the land.”

Cde Chinguno called on Government to consider youths in Command Agriculture as a way of empowering them.

“As we are enjoying the successes of Command Agriculture programme, we are calling on the Government to also consider youths in this programme, as they are being sidelined in many other programmes,” he said.

“Some youths who are doing farming on their small peices of land recorded bumper harvests last season and this on its own is a sign that we have the potential.”
