EVERY child is born handsome or beautiful and it takes a great parent to look well after their children.

Given a chance, it is good to give exposure to the children in terms of beauty, fashion and modelling as this can also promote the growth of those industries. In line with that, it is just two months away, before the “Baby of The Year” winner is crowned at a prestigious competition being hosted by The Sunday Mail in partnership with Jet Stores.

According to the organisers, this year’s edition of the competition has seen more than 300 entries with finalists aged between birth and 24 months to be revealed next week.

The Baby of the Year competition, which is in its 15th year running will see winners walking away with cash prizes, hampers and clothes amongst other prizes.

One of the organisers, Zimpapers business manager (marketing) Charity Chirume said preparations are gathering momentum.

“We received overwhelming number of entries but only 120 lucky babies were selected by our panel of judges to enter into the four categories. We are unveiling the first category of girls aged between 0-12months girls in The Sunday Mail and voting will begin thereafter,” she said.

The four categories are namely 0-12 months girls, 0-12 months boys, 12-14 months girls and 12-14 months boys respectively. Each category has 30 babies. Voting runs for four weeks with one category being featured every week and people are encouraged to buy the newspaper and vote for their favourite choices.

“Public voting will be for one month only and we are encouraging people to buy the paper so that they are able to vote for their choices. The more you vote the higher chances the contestant gets to win,” said Chirume.

The competition has grown bigger, with organisers extending it to the southern region (Bulawayo) where 120 babies were also selected to enter into the same competition.

“This year we incorporated 120 babies from the southern region and their faces will be published next week in The Sunday News and public voting begins. Same terms and conditions of the competition apply to the new region,” she said.

Chirume said the official announcement of winners will be done on November 26 accompanied by a prize-giving ceremony that will be announced on a later date.

Winning babies will also be crowned as Face of The Sunday Mail.
