Albert Chivanga new MRDC CEO

GOVERNMENT has appointed former Mwenezi Rural District Council (RDC) human resources manager Mr Albert Chivanga as the new chief executive with effect from Monday this week.

The post fell vacant after former Mwenezi CEO Mr Stansillous Mavesere retired on February 28 this year.

Mwenezi District Administrator Ms Rosemary Chingwe read a declaration from the Minister of Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture, Cde Abedinigo Ncube, announcing the appointment.

“We are pleased to inform you that the Minister has, in terms of Section 66 (1) of the RDC Act Chapter 29:13, approved the appointment of Mr Albert Chivanga as the CEO for Mwenezi RDC,” she said.

“It is anticipated that this appointment will bring success to the local authority, as well as stimulating rural development.”

Ms Chingwe said Mr Chivanga was suitable for the post as he was familiar with the workings of the council.

“We are pleased with the Minister’s decision to appoint Mr Chivanga as the CEO for Mwenezi RDC,” she said. “Mr Chivanga has his roots in Mwenezi because he was born here and he is also well experienced in terms of local governance due to the experience he attained at Bindura Town Council and many other councils.

“He has been in local governance for quite some time and with the necessary support from the local authorities as the arm of Government, including the chiefs, councillors and others, we see Mwenezi going far because of his experience.”

Mwenezi RDC chairperson Mr Sam Masukume was upbeat about the new appointment.

“Mr Chivanga has always been an employee at Mwenezi RDC and during his time as an HR manager, we saw nothing wrong with how he conducted his duties; that is what gives us confidence,” he said.

“What he needs now is our support because he cannot do it alone.”

In an interview, Mr Chivanga said he is going to spearhead the socio-economic development of the council.

There was need, according to Mr Chivanga, to have a local development plan for Greater Rutenga so that it attained town status by 2019.

“My dream is also to rehabilitate roads,” he said. “All roads should be traffic-able and I will also address issues to do with water so that everybody has clean water and good sanitation facilities.”

Mr Chivanga joined Chiredzi DA’s office in 1991 as human resources assistant before becoming personal assistant to the principal of human resources office in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing in 2006.

In 2012, he joined Bindura Town Council before becoming the Mwenezi RDC human resources manager in 2014.
