Every citizen must register to vote
EDITOR — After every five years every citizen above 18 years is entitled to fulfil the most basic action in a democratic society — which is voting.
As we head towards the 2018 harmonised elections, every citizen is urged to vote. Voting is an important right in our society. By voting, you are making your voice heard and registering your opinion on how you think the Government should operate.
The Masvingo provincial leadership is doing a great job mobilising supporters to register under the new Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) system ahead of next year’s harmonised elections.
Voting is a fundamental process that keeps our system of government working. Through elections, citizens have the ability to decide on who represents them in government, be it a local official, a state or national representative, or the president.
Many may argue that their vote really doesn’t count. Some say that they don’t know enough about the issues and think they shouldn’t vote.
Others still say that they do not know where or how to vote or how to register. All these call for Government to mobilise people who will go around the country’s provinces to educate and sensitise people on the importance of voting.
Also people should take advantage of the free waiver for identification documents, for them to get their things in order in preparation of the 2018 harmonised elections. Revai Dongorengwe, Via e-mail.
