- Sydney Mubaiwa in ZAKA

CATHOLIC leader for Masvingo Diocese Bishop Michel Dickson Bhasera has urged villagers to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

He also urged Zimbabweans to shun violence as the country prepares for the 2018 harmonised elections. Addressing parents, teachers and school pupils at a speech and prize giving ceremony at St Anthony’s Mission High School recently, Bishop Bhasera said peace and unity brings progress. “The country’s electoral body has started a voter registration exercise under the new Biometric Voter Registration system. We all know that the upcoming election will be like others and will be contested by different people holding different views. Intolerance of each other will block our progress,” he said. Bishop Bhasera said today’s struggle cannot be overcome through violence but with unity, peace and fearful hearts.

“There is no one in this country who does not want growth and a better life for their children, but all this will happen as a result of unity and peace,” he said.

He also took time to commend the new education curriculum which he called an excellent education innovation.

“I am gratified by the fact that the new education curriculum once again stresses the importance of the unhu/ubunthu philosophy which our culture traditionally utilised to inculcate human values, respect that brings peace in a society.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zaka Central legislator Cde Paradzai Chakona called for the computerisation programmes to be extended to rural schools for pupils to access the latest technologies.

“Our rural schools must be equipped with computers so that our pupils match global developments where economies have been digitalized,” he said. Cde Chakona donated computers and WiFi morderms with six months subscription to the school.
