Mash Central applauds Govt for massive road rehabilitation

MASHONALAND CENTRAL residents have applauded Government for a sudden upsurge of road construction and rehabilitation projects, saying some of the roads had been abandoned for more than 20 years.

The Government, through the District Development Fund and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has been highly visible in the province where villagers had surrendered to the fate of bad roads, in some cases, a whole generations had never seen a good road. Highly appreciated is the construction of a new bridge on Pembi River in Mvurwi, whose old narrow low bridge built in Rhodesia has for decades been a death trap.

Government has also done Nyaure Bridge at the border of Bindura and Domboshava, another longtime death trap. Other projects include Mvurwi - Guruve - Kanyemba Road, where a 10km stretch from Wona Mapetu to Camper Down has been dualised. The stretch had become a nightmare for motorists.

The Bindura–Shamva Road whose construction work was abandoned about 20 years ago, has suddenly been worked on and is more than 90 percent complete.

The Government is also working on Ndoda Hondo road that links Northen Zimbabwe to Mozambique and work is expected to be complete by end of this month.

Another projects is the construction of a landing bay on the Zambezi River at Kanyemba Border Post. The border post at the confluence Zambezi and Luangwa Rivers is a crossing point to Zumbo in Mozambique, Luangwa in Zambia and Kanyemba is Zimbabwe and is fast becoming a huge economic zone.

The Government has also re-patched some portions of the Harare-Bindura Highway and the Harare-Muchapondwa-Bindura road. “Suddenly the Government is visible on the road maintenance works. Some roads that we had become used too as very bad examples and death traps are suddenly sorted. The Government has done very well this time around and needs to be applauded.’’ said Mr Munyaradzi Muroiwa who has been a commuter omnibus driver on many routes in Mash Central for about a decade.

Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Martin Dinha has applauded the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development for coming up with funding for the projects, saying good roads attracted investment.

“I am pleased with the quick response by the Ministry of Transport in sorting out our roads in Mashonaland Central. I highly appreciate work on the Shamva-Bindura Road and Harare-Bindura Highway since many people use them to do business,’’ he said.
