Zanu-PF confirms co-options
ZANU-PF Mashonaland West province has confirmed co-options it made during the course of the year in preparation for the party’s Extraordinary Congress in December.
Speaking after a meeting at the party’s provincial office in Chinhoyi yesterday, national secretary for finance for the Women’s League, who is also a Central Committee member, Cde Tsitsi Mugabe, said every district presented its list for consideration.
“We had a fruitful meeting with members of the provincial and national executives and the Central Committee to look at co-options that we have made in preparation for the (Extraordinary) Congress,” said Cde Mugabe.
“We were preparing our list where each district was presenting its members who were confirmed without any challenges.”
The meeting confirmed chairperson Cde Angelina Muchemenyi, Mary Phiri (vice chairperson), Joyce Mukazhu (secretary for administration), Angela Nyenyai (commissar) and Martha Tafirenyika (treasurer), among others.
However, a group of placard-waving party supporters camped outside the provincial party offices calling for the ouster of Cdes Muchemenyi and Mukazhu for several alleged offences.
A petition allegedly signed by 29 provincial executive members was read in the meeting calling for Cde Muchemenyi’s ouster.
Cde Muchemenyi denied the alleged ouster, saying it was the work of political rivals.
The position was reaffirmed by Cde Mugabe, who said the meeting maintained the status quo.
Among the allegations raised were that Cde Muchemenyi has been pursuing a factional agenda from her time of appointment.
They alleged corruption and incompetency which has resulted in divisions in the wing.
The petition supporting the alleged vote of no confidence was signed according to Article 29:251 of the Zanu-PF party constitution.
Minister of State for Mashonaland West province Cde Webster Shamu, provincial chairman Cde Ephraim Chengeta and main wing secretary for administration Cde Simbarashe Ziyambi also attended the meeting.
