Education Ministry pledges 200k to Banket School

THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has pledged $200 000 for renovation­s of Banket School’s dormitory which was recently gutted by fire.

Addressing a gathering where Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) was donating blankets to the school, provincial education director Mr Silvester Mashayamom­be revealed the pledge.

“The ministry has positively responded to the tragedy which had befallen this school and has pledged to chip in with $200 000 for the renovation­s of the damaged property,” he said.

Mr Mashayamom­be said costing of the damage, which was conducted by the ministry, amounted to $150 000.

He urged all those who will be administer­ing the renovation­s fund to put it into good use and make sure that the dormitory will have a standard look.

Some of the children who had gone back to their homesteads have already started coming back to resume their studies

Other well-wishers who had responded to the tragedy include Kit Zone which donated 25 beds and Chinhoyi High School which donated 30 mattresses.

Councillor for Ward 22 Mrs Loveness Kamunga commended the community’s positive response to the disaster.

“Surely, there is love and teamwork in Banket and that spirit must continue as the community helped in putting off the fire using buckets of water and also helped in clearing the rubble,” she said.
