Redcliff runs out of residential stands

FORMER employees of Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (Ziscosteel) who have been receiving part of their outstanding salaries backdated to 2009 have bought most of the residential stands that were on offer in Redcliff.

To date, the former employees have received two batches of their back pay - a development that has resulted in Redcliff and Kwekwe towns recording brisk business.

Redcliff Mayor Councillor Freddy Kapuya confirmed that his council had run out of residential stands.

He said the local authority was now working flat out to avail more stands for the residents and had since engaged a private land developer to ease the situation. “I can confirm that Redcliff has run out of residential stands,” he said. “We do not have stands at the moment, but I can assure everyone that we are working on the issue and very soon we will have them.

“Former Ziscosteel employees have been receiving their backpay and they are the ones buying the stands. We have affordable payment terms, which are attracting these home seekers.”

Cllr Lovemore Borerwe, chairperson for the housing committee, said they were expecting a further 200 residential stands soon after engaging a private land developer. He said the stands would be available before the end of the year.

“We had stands in Simbi Park, Renin, Rutendo and Grasslands, but all of them have been purchased,” he said. “The scramble for the stands has been happening in the past month.

“We have since approached Pure Gold Property Developers for the development of new stands. So, we are expecting 200 stands to be availed before the end of the year.”
