Kudos to Zimpapers on cancer awareness

-

EDITOR —Cancer has become a headache for many as it is killing more people now than HIV.

Many people were not used to going for cancer screening or health check-ups until awareness campaigns began, which opened people’s eyes to the gravity of the disease.

It has been discovered that awareness campaigns are effective in sensitising people on different health issues.

Zimpapers has taken the initiative by getting involved in awareness campaigns by undertaking to host their annual Cancer Power Walk to raise awareness on the importance of early cancer detection and preventative lifestyles, in partnership with Island Hospice on Saturday.

According to an article in yesterday’s paper they hosted a Takkies Day as a sign of their commitment to social responsibility and showing the world that everyone should get involved in the fight against cancer.

Other organisations should emulate what is being done by Zimpapers as part of their corporate social responsibility, donating and raising awareness of this deadly disease.

Many people are dying because they ignore symptoms of cancer due to lack of knowledge. When you interact with them and talk about the mortality rate they might be prompted to visit health institutions as soon as they notice suspicious developments on their bodies.

Companies need to know the impact that corporate social responsibility has on society as a whole, and for them it helps in maximising the creation of shared value for the owners, employees, shareholders and stakeholders. Tafara Charles Bhizuke, Bindura.
