ZVIMBA Rural District Council has commented its residents and business community for paying their bills on time, resulting in a surplus of more than $300 000.

The council’s finance chairperson, Councillor Robin Bailes Smith, said they had a projected target of $4,2 million by end September, but they had since collected $4,5 million, resulting in the surplus.

“From January to September 2017 council managed to collect $4 490 051 against a set target of $4 4154 464 surpassing its target income by $335 588,” Cllr Smith.

“Currently, our budget performance stands at 107,6 percent monthly and our annual stands at 80,6 percent. Once again it is time to forecast on the future and review our past. We are excited that our current budget has out-performed our forecast and we pray that this trend is sustained.

“2018 being an election year will be a challenge in terms of budget performance as some residents are waiting for another write-off.”

Cllr Smith said despite the economic quagmire bedevilling the country, stakeholders should continue supporting the local authority.

Cllr Smith said the council was now aiming to keep pace with latest technology to enhance the ease of doing business.

He also said the local authority was undertaking projects aimed at complementing the country’s economic blueprint the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Social Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset).
