Residents, councils must work in harmony

- Tedias Moyo

EDITOR - Maybe introduction of interest by the Chitungwiza Municipality to overdue accounts will push people to act.

The problem with people is that they want to be pushed to carry out their responsibilities.

There are some people whose debts date back from years ago and they have nothing pushing them to pay up.

What people forget is that the amount will keep accumulating and it will never disappear unless responsible authorities decide to clear all debts.

It was, however, announced that this time around, no arrears will be cleared.

If the situation stays this way, then residents should not have a lot of grievances.

Service delivery needs money to be executed efficiently. However, this should not be an excuse by responsible authorities to deliver poor services to their residents.

Councils and municipalities play a critical role in ensuring that residents live in a safe environment.

It has been proven that almost all diseases that don’t fall under non communicable ones emanate from the environment that we live in.

This year was characterised by outbreaks of typhoid and the first strike resulted in death.

The second one was successfully fought and it was through the Ministry of Health and Harare Council.

This is just proof that clean and safe environments contribute largely to people’s health stability.

Residents and their authorities need to work together in harmony so that rights are given and responsibilities are taken.

It’s time to resolve all outstanding issues and start on a new page for everyone’s happiness.
