DEFENDING champions in the Zimbabwe Netball Association Super League, Glow Petroleum, say it has been a difficult year for them and they are now fighting to finish in a respectable position as the season draws closer to an end.

The reigning champions won their games against Manyame Falcon Queens and ZRP Harare Province Queens at Morris Depot over the weekend.

They beat ZRP Harare Province Queens 74-26 and Manyame Falcon Queens 47-38.

This saw them jumping a place up the ladder into third position.

Harare City and Correctional Services Queens occupy the first two places.

Glow Petroleum coach Perpetua Siyachitema said after a shaky start to the season following the loss of some key players such as their goalshooter Tatenda Dzivo and Beualah Mahlongwani, they were now fighting for third place.

“I think my team, their performance is good now, we have been having some challenges since we introduced some foreign players, they were not used to our type of play in the first games but they have adjusted.

“So for now, it’s tricky for us to play for position one or two.

‘‘ We are now competing with ZRP for position three. We have two games in hand against Harare City and Correctional Services and our chances of winning are slim.

‘‘So I am just hoping we will finish on position three,” said Siyachitema.

Siyachitema still praised her charges.

“The girls played very well, actually their form now is good. They are playing very well, excellent netball and they are playing according to instructions.

‘‘On Saturday we are going to play Correctional Services and I am sure the girls will put a smile on my face. We are left with five games now,” Siyachitema said,

Harare City Queens dismissed Black Rhinos Queens 69-30 before they prevailed 51-22 against Waruwaru. They are now occupying the top spot on the log table with 56 points. Correctional Services Queens are in second place with 52 points and have two games in hand.

Harare City coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki has already indicated that although they are in a good position to challenge for the championship, they still have to deal with a number of challenging matches.

RESULTS: Black Rhinos Queens 30, Harare City Queens 69; Glow Petroleum Queens 74, ZRP Harare Province Queens 26; Mutare City Queens 85, Ruwa Queens 11; Glow Petroleum Queens 47, Manyame Falcon Queens 38; Platinum Queens 50, ZRP Harare Province Queens 38; Waruwaru Queens 22, Harare City Queens 51.
