ZOC hosts workshops to promote professionalism
THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee are this week hosting two capacity development programmes for sport administrators as part of their efforts to promote professionalism and governance within the fraternity.
The first one, which is a strategic planning training of trainers’ workshop, got underway yesterday at their headquarters in Harare. It will run until Sunday. The workshop is being conducted by RM Sports Management consultant Robert Mutsauki, who is training 15 individuals in the development and delivery of the strategic plan. ZOC said the selection of the trainees was targeted and partly based on relevant qualifications and experience.
“The selection of trainees was targeted and partly based on relevant qualifications and experience. This initiative addresses a goal in the organisation’s strategic plan, which focuses on human capital development through sport leadership and management training.
“The training aims to support and deliver improved professionalism and good governance in national sport associations through the transfer of knowledge to selected personnel who in turn will work with national sport associations as well as other sport governing bodies in developing and delivering their strategic plans,” ZOC said.
The National Olympic Committee said this would increase their capacity to offer support in the rollout of strategic planning for national sport associations and enables them to have a pool of resource persons readily available to guide and assist sports organisations with strategic and operational plans from local to national level.
The programme is fully funded by the Olympic Solidarity. This is the second country to benefit from this initiative, after the programme was launched in Nigeria in August 2017.
The ZOC will also hold a coaches’ strength training, conditioning and injury prevention workshop in Gweru.
This will be held in partnership with the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports. And 30 coaches, within the districts of the Midlands, are expected to attend. The facilitators for the workshop are Phillip Jeans and Kudzai Muzorewa.
They are both lecturers with the American Council of Exercise and experts in strength-training and conditioning.
This is the fourth such intervention, following similar workshops in Harare in December 2016, Bulawayo in May 2017 and Mutare in September 2017.
