Contentmen­t is a state of the heart

Philippian­s 4 vs 11-12 ( NIV); “. . . for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstan­ces . . . I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” AS I drove around the city I was alarmed at the number of potholes that the rains have caused; every few hundred meters there is a huge hole that is slowly developing into a small crater. The entire city is literally littered with potholes of all shapes and sizes caused by the unrelentin­g rain that in itself is a blessing which is bringing more than a few unexpected challenges.

The irony is that not long ago as the scorching sun was ablaze and we were experienci­ng the effects of the drought, we all prayed for rain or at least relief from the hazards of the sun.

Not long before that it was winter, a harsh season which we prayed would be cut short and end sooner rather than later. The blistering cold nights and the equally anguishing mornings, coupled with the unrelentin­g cold wind, was something we all wished would come to an end.

May we pray that we learn to appreciate the gifts that the LORD provides, to delight in them, and to find joy in them as we patiently wait for the next chapter in our lives. May He also teach us to be content in His blessings and to know that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Today’s blessings and the challenges they bring, will soon end. God designed it that way.
