Military training embraces ICT

ALL military training institutions are in the process of rationalising their training packages in line with Information Communication Technology, a senior army officer has said.

Speaking at the quartermasters course held recently at the Zimbabwe National Army School of Logistics, Deputy Commander 3 Infantry Brigade in Mutare, Colonel Joe Muzvidziwa, said the cordial relationship between the army and sister uniformed forces, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services should be cherished.

The graduands went through a training package, which was meant to equip them with the requisite working knowledge and skills that would qualify them to become stores and equipment managers at battalion level.

“I want to acknowledge the good work the school has done to establish a computer laboratory, which will serve the students in their research work. I want to believe, however, that the substitute domestic study visit you undertook to various domestic logistics institutions was beneficial. It remains the school’s desire to see you exploring learning opportunities by visiting other preferred destinations as you find space in the newly acquired area of work,” said Col Muzvidziva.

A total of 18 soldiers and seven correctional services members were conferred with certificates after completing the four-month-long course.

The course did not include an external logistics study tour, as had been planned due to challenges beyond the school’s control.

He added: “I am pleased to note that the School of Logistics is not out of the race and will urge the Commandant and his staff to maintain their set vision. We are eagerly looking forward to the presentation of diplomas and degrees in the near future. I am pleased to note that there is a considerable number of female officers who have chosen to stand shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts in this once male-dominated field.

“This shows that our school has positively embraced the concept of gender equality as pronounced by the SADC Protocol. I also take note of the presence of officers from the ZPCS among those graduating today. I understand that this has been the norm with other past intakes. I feel that there exists a healthy relationship between our two sister uniformed organisations that must be cherished into the future.”
