We need long-term solutions to cash crisis

- Makanaka Zireva.

EDITOR — It is good to know that cash transfer collection points will be increased in the country. A lot of Zimbabweans have relatives abroad and these usually send money. It becomes a challenge accessing the money in cash because facilities that offer such services locally are overwhelmed.

WorldRemit recognised this problem in the country and is willing to offer assistance through its partner, Steward Bank. At least the money can be collected in most towns and cities, which is not bad at all for a start.

People don’t want to spend hours and hours queueing to get cash. This new development will go a long way in saving time and money.

Businesses charge more money if someone is not using cash to purchase a good or service. This poses a great challenge because our earnings are not big enough for expenditures that are not intended. Most of us end up making sacrifices because of desperation.

It is now normal to get into a store or restaurant and be approached by someone willing to swipe for you in return for cash. This shows how desperate Zimbabweans are for cash.

We hope that the cash crisis will be eliminated soon since many of the culprits were exposed. Banks should start to function efficiently for easy access to cash.

Good relations with international organisations should be maintained so that we get the help that we need.
