DESPITE low turnout and bad weather, Zim Hiphop 2017 nominee Takura Shonhai put up a sterling performance at Big Turn Up show held at Newlands Country Club in Harare over the weekend.

Clad in a red tracksuit, Takura who was among a number of artistes at the event performed several of his hit songs among them “Mhofu” and “Zino Irema” and had the fans dancing, before a downpour interrupted the show.

Some of the musicians who were lined up for the show included Jam Signal, Gary Tight and Zinarayah while on the decks disc jockeys Eve Phatchild and Langton B proved their prowess when they had to juggle international beats versus local ones.

Man of the moment Jah Prayzah made a brief appearance. He did a chorus of “Kutonga Kwaro” and received thunderous applause.

Shabach Band also wowed the crowd with their live performance, where they played yesteryear hits from great hip-hop musicians.

The event which ran under the theme “Denim Affair” saw fans and guests dressed and showcasing the latest denim wear.

A luxury car exhibit, fashion and food exhibition preceded the main event. In an interview with one of the organisers, Tawanda Madzara of Ecrag Group said all went according to plan despite the bad weather.

“Yes, we had a low turnout because the event targets a certain niche of people. Everything went according to plan. It was ‘Royal November’ as we get to celebrate birthdays of celebrities.

“The event is a VIP social networking platform and a celebrity movement where celebrities just show up, like what Jah Prayzah did. We are in our second month and we promise bigger and better events,” he said.

Madzara said plans for December were already underway with 22 set aside for the event.

“We are still to deliberate on the theme but so far we will compile list of celebrities born in December and work with that. Again this has to be the best because the year will be ending and it has to be done in style,” he said.
