530 delegates for Congress

ZANU-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Cde Ephraim Chengeta yesterday said at least 530 delegates from the province will attend the party’s Extraordinary Congress that will be held at Robert Mugabe Square in Harare in a few weeks’ time.

The Congress, which was initially set to run for six days, will now be held over three days. The budget for the event has similarly been revised from the initial $8 million.

Cde Chengeta said the province was now geared up for the Extraordinary Congress slated for next month.

“Members from the Provincial Coordinating Committee, who include Politburo and Central Committee members from the province, National Constitutional Assembly members and provincial executive members will attend the Congress,” he said.

Cde Chengeta said the ruling party affiliates, namely war veterans, ex-detainees, students and ex-restrictees, have been included in the provincial list of the delegates. The Congress is expected to endorse the recalling of former President Robert Mugabe as the First Secretary of the party and the endorsement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the President and First Secretary of the party.

Other issues include upholding the decision by the Central Committee to expel members of the G40 cabal such as former First Lady Grace Mugabe, former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere, Ignatius Chombo, Walter Mzembi, Kudzanai Chipanga, Mandi Chimene and Letina Undenge.

These were dismissed for allegedly fanning divisions in the party and threatening national security through corruption and rendering Government programmes dysfunctional.
