Lean Cabinet will boost economic recovery
EDITOR — The story headlined “President to do away with bloated Cabinet” refers.
That is the way to go Mr President. Not only should you merge some of the ministries, you also need to restructure most of the Government institutions and departments for your Government to deliver.
We have administrative structures which we inherited from the Smith regime, which are still operating intact without modifying them to be in sync with the new models of governance and administration.
Surely, there is urgent need for reforms in order to revitalise our economy. You should also consider revitalising the District Development Fund. This used to be an important institution in the rural areas particularly on the maintenance of the rural roads.
Accessibility to many rural communities is now a serious challenge with the rainy season upon us. Please do spare a thought for the rural communities; their mobility is key to eradication of poverty.
We defer to your wisdom on the restructuring of ministries and await your pronouncements in that regard. My major prayer is to ensure rationalisation of salary structures within parastatals. There is serious decadence in those institutions and it is sad that the recommendations to reduce salaries fell on deaf ears.
Spare a thought also for pensioners Mr President. We do hope to hear the outcome of a commission appointed by former President Mugabe to look into the issue of pensions that were eroded during the hyper-inflationary environment.
Best wishes in your new Cabinet.
Happy Zimbabwean.
