Phenomenal Black Friday for shopaholics

- Tsitsi Ndabambi

WHILE others were celebrating the presidential inauguration, shopaholics countrywide did it through joining the world in the Black Friday shopping spree chasing after bargains especially in clothing shops.

Passers-by witnessed some shoving and pushing almost breaking shop doors in a rush to grab discounted goods.

Edgars group marketing executive Rumbidzai Dzimba was happy to share that their twenty five stores which are widespread nationwide took part in this sale, offering various discounts ranging all the way up to 75 percent targeting selected items in order to make room for new and fresh stock into the stores.

She said, “Black Friday is an international sale phenomenon that officially marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Hence it was relevant for Edgars Zimbabwe to participate as we wanted to educate our customers on international shopping trends as well as officially launching the Christmas shopping season.

“Our main benefit was the delight and excitement we managed to get out of our customers. Nothing pleases us more than an opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to our customers for their support and loyalty. Our customers enjoyed the massive discounts and wide sale offering.”

Not to be left out some online stores also slashed their prices with adverts booming on social media.

“We are hoping that next year more of the stores in Zimbabwe will be part of the Black Friday sale given that we are looking forward to a more improved economy,” commented Sabelo Nchaya who was showing off his new mobile phone that he had purchased online at 50 percent discount.

Meanwhile in Sandton SA this reporter spoke to several shoppers at Sandton Mall who had mixed feelings about the Black Friday sale.

“We were disappointed with this year’s sale because not everything was at 75 percent discount or more compared to previous years. Some useful items were reduced to a pathetic 20 percent which we found ridiculous and a waste of time to even visit the mall,” said Hans Klerk and his wife.

It was a different issue with Mrs Khumalo who was happy to buy herself what she called posh dresses and shoes in one of the international branded shops at an affordable price.

In South Africa people are known to make it to the shopping malls before the break of dawn waiting for the store doors to open but this year in some places in the Gauteng area the hype was low.

At the Rosebank Mall it was business as usual with the visible display sale signs in almost every shop.

That did not bring down the morale of the people who love shopping, they thanked the stars for more space to comfortably select their favourites without a hustle or competition from any rival buyers.
