Zimpapers shines

ZIMPAPERS (1980) Limited has demonstrat­ed its leadership dominance again after its group chief executive officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke won the businessma­n of the year — Media and Publishing Services Industry award — at the Zimbabwe Leadership Awards yesterday.

The Herald also scooped the national newspaper of the year award under the Zimbabwe Business Awards category.

Zimpapers public relations and corporate affairs manager Ms Beatrice Tonhodzayi and The Herald managing editor Mrs Victoria Ruzvidzo received the two awards at a colourful ceremony held in Harare.

In an interview, Mr Deketeke congratula­ted the entire Zimpapers team for continuing to excel and seeing opportunit­ies in the country for the business to grow and thrive.

“We are certainly defying the odds by opening our eyes and ears to see and hear what services and products our people want in our areas of business. This is what is making us continuous­ly relevant to all our markets,” he said.

Some of the prominent individual­s who received awards included Chitungwiz­a Central Hospital chief executive Dr Obadiah Moyo, who scooped the Medical and Health Leadership Excellence Institutio­n of the Year award National 2017, and Hospital of the Year award for Chitungwiz­a Central Hospital; and the Lifetime Achievemen­t award in Strategic Leadership Excellence.

Mrs Farirai Guta of Manyame Rural District Council scooped the top female chief executive of the year award National 2017 — Special Recognitio­n in Leadership Excellence, while Dr Caroline Chirima won the Businesswo­man of the Year Award National 2017 — Special Recognitio­n in Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technologi­es (ICT) and Security Services.

Businessma­n of the Year Award National 2017 — ICT and Retail Services Industry was scooped by Mr Langton Chikukwa while Business Leader of the Year Award National 2017 — Special Recognitio­n in Community Developmen­t and Leadership Excellence went to Mr Edward Pise.

Makoni Rural District Council won the Organisati­on of the Year Award National 2017 — Special Recognitio­n in Community Developmen­t and Leadership Excellence, while the Zimbabwe Schools Examinatio­n Council (ZIMSEC) scooped the Organisati­on of the Year Award National 2017 — Special Recognitio­n in Academic Leadership Excellence.

The Company of the Year Award National 2017 — ICT and Retail Services Industry was scooped by Firstpack.

The awards celebrate successes in various discipline­s, including business, sports, education and the arts.
