CHILDREN of war veterans in Mashonaland West Province have endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the Zanu-PF presidential candidate in the 2018 harmonised elections ahead of the Extraordinary Congress this Friday.

The children under the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators Association (Ziliwaco) banner endorsed President Mnangagwa’s elevation as the Zanu-PF First Secretary.

Addressing a two-day Ziliwaco provincial executive committee seminar in Banket recently, the organisation’s Mashonaland West provincial chairman Cde Simbarashe Madembo said the province was behind President Mnangagwa.

“We endorse President Mnangagwa HEALTH authorities in Mashonaland West are investigating an organisation that is purportedly offering a two-week nurse aide training course at Gadzema Council Clinic.

Community Empowerment Foundation is said to have enrolled 231 aspiring nurses on the strength that they stand a chance of securing employment at Government and private health centres.

The students, who are studying in about seven classes with at least 30 people each, paid $15 for the two week course and $50 for the advanced course.

The students paid a total of $3 465 together, with part of the money expected to go towards the graduation ceremony and certificates.

There are fears that the students could have been fleeced since the training is not sanctioned by relevant authorities

Makonde District medical officer Dr Paradzai Mudzengerere said they were investigating the case.

“We are not aware of the training programme, including the district as our President and as an affiliate of Zanu-PF in the province and we endorse his candidature as our First Secretary and sole presidential candidate in the 2018 harmonised elections,” he said.

“We believe the President stands for the emancipation of all Zimbabweans.”

Ziliwaco Trust national chairman Cde Allen Nemaunga called on the youths to be disciplined ahead of the Extraordinary Congress and protect the core values of the liberation struggle.

“We are here because of what our parents did for us in liberating this country and as we enjoy that freedom, let us not deviate from the core values of unity and love and development for all,” he said. “Let us be disciplined and mobilise more youths to vote in the 2018 harmonised elections.”

Other members of Ziliwaco Trust said children of war veterans had no other way of showing gratitude to their parents except through protecting the legacy and history of the country’s independence.

“As much as we appreciate what our parents did in liberating this country, we cannot thank them enough, but we can make our developmental contributions to this country as a way of appreciating what they did for us,” said one of the members.

“We need to work for the good of our party Zanu-PF, which has the interests of the people at heart.”

The two-day seminar was held in preparation for the Zanu-PF Extraordinary Congress and was aimed at conscientising members on the new political landscape following the resignation of former President Robert Mugabe.
