MDC Alliance singing for their supper

EDITOR — The Zimbabwean opposition’s jaunt to the West where they have received widespread condemnation for campaigning for sanctions against Zimbabwe, or maintenance of the same, is a sign of desperation.

The opposition MDC Alliance is looking for relevance.

Former President Mugabe used to give them currency, but now he is gone. The “Mugabe-must-go” mantra no longer holds.

What the opposition is now doing is looking for support in de-legitimising the new Government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

They need to rally the United States and European funders to support their camp and it is something they hope will work.

A key stumbling block, though, will be the fact that Britain is looking to strengthen its relations with the Commonwealth after Brexit.

So, they are chasing a wild goose. At home it feeds into the narrative that the opposition is in bed with the West. Tough times for the opposition.

And it should not be lost to us that it is also about money, which is the other reason for the opposition’s campaigning of the isolation of Government.

The opposition is seeking to play house niggers and project to Western governments an image of custodians of occidental interests at a time China has put a foothold and even hit the ground running by giving the new Government a huge loan.
