Mhondoro-Ngezi proposes $5,4m budget

MHONDORO-NGEZI Rural District Council has proposed a $5,4 million budget for 2018, a $1 million increase from last year’s.

According to the Finance Committee statement, the increase in the budget will see installati­on of street lighting and constructi­on of a primary school and a clinic at Turf Township to reduce pressure on existing utilities.

Council also plans to establish a dumpsite lining to improve waste management.

Finance Committee chairperso­n Mr Batson Mukanyange said Mhondoro-Ngezi was undertakin­g revenue generation projects to achieve the $5,4 million budget target.

“It is envisaged that for the year 2018, council will raise income to the tune of $5 388 379,71 through various revenue drivers,” he said.

“The anticipate­d income will be allocated to council’s department­s for utilisatio­n in 2018.”

By end of September, Mhondoro-Ngezi RDC had managed to collect $3 million against a target of $3,3 million, representi­ng a 90 percent success rate.

The bulk of the revenue came from rates, licences and taxes.

“Actual collection­s amounted to $3 million against a target of $3,3 million as at September 30, representi­ng a 90 percent performanc­e level against a comparativ­e performanc­e of 71 percent for the previous year,” said Mr Mukanyange.
