- Liberty Dube Manicaland Correspondent

BUSINESSES in Manicaland have been urged to work together to create smart partnerships and synergies, which will fast-track local economic growth.

Addressing businesspersons and representatives of Small and Medium Enterprises and other organisations in Mutare yesterday, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Monica Mutsvangwa said businesses should come up with tangible action plans and sustainable solutions to the challenges they were facing.

“Businesspeople here must talk to each other and collaborate to revive the economy and create new jobs,” she said. “This will not only make small companies grow, but it will attract new investments into the province.

“Foreign and local investors are attracted where there is a strong business sector, which networks and creates value. What is also critical is that we grow local disposable incomes for our people.

“It means that we must see a business sector that does business with each other here in Manicaland and create smart partnerships and synergies, which can result in local economic growth.”

Minister Mutsvangwa said Government was committed to nurturing an inclusive business sector.

“I have been visiting companies here in Manicaland and what impresses me is that despite the problems we are facing, the business sector remains resolute and committed to grow and make a difference,” she said.

The meeting was attended by players in agriculture, mining, energy, housing and construction, tourism and hospitality, among other sectors.

Economist Mr Vince Musewe said the province could attract investment through innovation.

“There is need for businesses in Manicaland to create a Manicaland business online directory,” he said. “We can attract foreign direct investment through innovation.

“We need to work on creating jobs and do business with each other. We need to be supportive of each other.”
