Meanwhile, Roman Catholic cleric Father Fidelis Mukonori has described the late former Prime Minister as an honest man who deserved the nation’s respect.

He said Mr Tsvangirai contributed towards redefining the country’s politics.

In an interview yesterday in Harare on the sidelines of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) workshop on effective election reporting, Father Mukonori said the younger generation should build on his works.

“He deserves the nation’s respect and may his soul rest in peace,” he said. “He contributed to the nation of Zimbabwe. We have one country and one nation.”

Turning to the upcoming elections, Father Mukonori said the country had the structures and potential to hold free and fair elections.

“As a citizen, free and fair elections are always expected,” he said.

“We have the stamina and moral call to do that. I am sure it will work out.”
