3 killed in domestic violence

THREE people were brutally murdered in a space of a week in Mashonaland Central, police have said.

Acting Mashonaland Central provincial spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati, confirmed the murders and said they had embarked on awareness campaigns aimed at reducing public and domestic violence.

A prophet with an apostolic sect in Mbisa Village, Chief Makope’s area of Chiweshe, Regedzai Karimazondo (31), is alleged to have fatally assaulted his wife’s boyfriend, Prosper Mutandiri (33), after luring him to the couple’s homestead following his discovery of love messages in his wife’s phone.

Asst Insp Masikati said the incident happened on Monday last week at around 3am. Karimazondo, who was in possession of Mutapura’s phone, used it to lure the unsuspecting Mutandiri to his homestead. Police attended the scene and conveyed Mutandiri’s body to Concession District Hospital for post-mortem.

Karimazondo was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

In another gruesome murder recorded on February 9, a man from Munaki Village in Chief Dotito’s area allegedly fatally assaulted his four-year-old son accusing him of being stubborn.

Vincent Muchengadare (32) was arrested in connection with the murder.

It is alleged that Muchengadare, who was staying with the child, retired to bed with him.

“During that time, Muchengadare assaulted his son with a switch all over the body,” said Asst Insp Masikati. “Nhewe Muchengadare (79) tried to restrain him, but in vain.

“The father discovered that he had killed his son the following morning. He tried to conceal evidence by burning the body. However, the body was not completely burnt, resulting in him digging a shallow grave where he buried the remains.”

After burying the remains, Muchengadare allegedly proceeded to Dotito Police Station to make a missing person report.

“Suspicious villagers who knew the living conditions at the Muchengadare homestead confronted and interrogated him, resulting in him spilling the beans,” said Asst Insp Masikati. “A police report was made and Muchengadare was arrested.”

In the other murder case, Munyaradzi Chinyama (33) of Chizaya Village in Chief Kasekete’s area of Murazabani is alleged to have fatally assaulted his eightyear-old son with a brick and leather belt on February 10.

“Chinyama was in the habit of assaulting his son and on February 9, he repeated the assault,” said Asst Insp Masikati.

“He was using a cooking stick and open hands. He barred the child from going out. Chinyama’s young brother, Nathaniel (22) tried to stop him, but he was told off.

“Nathaniel left Chinyama with his son. He assaulted him three times on that day. On the following day, he struck the boy with a half brick on the head, before assaulting him with a belt all over the body.”

He said when Nathaniel came back the following morning he enquired about the whereabouts of Chinyama’s son, but failed to get a satisfactory answer.

He discovered the body hidden in one of the rooms.
