ZCDC to honour pledges

- Manicaland Bureau

ZIMBABWE Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) will fulfil all socio-economic and corporate responsibilities it pledged in Manicaland, which include rehabilitating the Mutare People’s Market, a senior official has said.

Speaking at the handover of prizes to couples who participated in the Sparkling Christmas Promotion last Friday at a hotel in Mutare, ZCDC chief executive officer Dr Moris Mpofu said his company developed a business model whose strategic pillars included responsibility, accountability and transparency.

Three couples walked away with nine-carat diamond rings, which were locally made, while others won holiday gifts.

“As a dynamic and responsible corporate citizen of this beloved country, Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has a vibrant corporate social investment policy,” said Dr Mpofu.

“This has seen the company implementing various socio-economic development projects across the communities where we conduct mining and beyond. The corporate social responsibility projects spurn across such critical socio-economic spheres like education, healthcare and wellness programmes, agricultural projects, water and sanitation and infrastructural developments such as road rehabilitation and construction of bridges.

“Soon, under the stewardship of our Provincial Minister of State, we will be partaking in projects like Mutare City clean-up and rehabilitation of Mutare People’s Market.”

Dr Mpofu said his company was looking forward to generating foreign currency through exporting polished diamonds. ZCDC is set to build a diamond cutting and polishing plant in Fern Valley, Mutare.

“As ZCDC, we are creating a worldclass diamond company with a strategic vision set to deliver foreign currency to the country through diamond exports, fiscal revenues through royalties and dividends, employment creation through business growth and socio-economic development in communities through our well-defined corporate social investment programme,” he said.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Monica Mutsvangwa, who was the guest of honour at the event, expressed optimism that ZCDC would invest in community development.
