Crash claims popular Kwekwe gold dealer

-

A POPULAR Kwekwe gold dealer Talent Mapanga died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured when a car they were travelling in hit a cow and overturned several times along the Kwekwe-Gweru highway on Wednesday morning.

The injured comprised his younger brother Langelihle, friends Anna Manamana and Arthur Zakeo who was driving the vehicle.

Another passenger, only identified as Ashley, escaped unhurt.

The five were on their way from Redcliff where Manamana had hosted her birthday party and were headed for Kwekwe.

Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said she was yet to receive the report of the accident.

However, the elder brother to the deceased, Mr Munashe Mapanga said the accident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday morning adding that the five were coming from a birthday party in Redcliff, which is about 10km from Kwekwe.

“As they approached the 10km peg towards into Kwekwe, the vehicle ahead of them reduced speed to avoid a cow that was crossing the road. But unfortunately when Zakeo saw this vehicle reducing speed, he thought it was an opportunity to overtake and went on to hit the cow in the process,” he said.

Mr Mapanga said after hitting the cow, the vehicle veered off the road, throwing Talent outside through the window and he landed on the tarmac and died on the spot.

“The vehicle then rolled several times injuring the other three in the process. Langelihle and Zakeo are admitted at Kwekwe District Hospital.” —Midlands Bureau.
